Permaculture uses systems to produce effects.

If you want a water fall effect, the systems of water must flow to create said waterfall. So we establish water throughout the upper watershed and concentrate the flows to aim toward a drop point or focal point for the water to fall. This creates the waterfall.

This system could be simple or complex. Simple is cheaper, complex is more expensive.

Because we are always looking to reduce costs as well as labor we may choose the simple system. This could include upper catchment swales, directed gullies or waddies, roof catchment directed to a swale to build up the flow. Then we direct the flow to a possible pond or small dam. The dam has a overflow with a drop the drop is the waterfall effect.

As a overflow has to not erode the system, it would be formed concrete or brick and have a catch basin to absorb the water impact.

This is just a simple example of a system for a effect. Have a great day
